Applications for SAEINDIA Foundation Scholarships

Scholarships /Awards for 2011 instituted by the SAE India Foundation

Applications are invited for the following SAE INDIA Foundation Scholarships/Awards as per the decisions taken in the SAE India Foundation Meeting held on 11th July 2011.

 
General Information

International Level

SAE International and SAE Foundation offer many scholarships for international students.
Please refer www.sae.org/foundation/scholarships/  for details.

Section Level

Applications should be made through the Faculty Advisor or Head of the Department duly attested by the college. Applications should be sent to section offices. The address of different sections are given in the last page.

National Level

Applications should be made through the Faculty Advisor or Head of the Department duly attested by the college. Applications should be sent to:

Giving away scholarships

Section level scholarships will be given normally during the annual student convention.

If the student is unable to attend the function, the scholarship will be sent by post to the address given by the student.

National level scholarships will be given normally in major national level SAEINDIA event. If the student is unable to attend the event, the scholarship will be given in a section event of student’s convenience. If both the above are not possible, the scholarship will be sent by post to the address given by the student.

KALPANA CHAWLA Scholarships (by Trim India Pvt. ltd).

Scholarships to be awarded

Three prizes shall be awarded during this year i.e.2010

First Prize: Rs.15000/-

Second Prize: Rs. 5000/-

Third Prize: Rs.2000/-

Eligibility: Outstanding Women undergraduate Engineering SAEINDIA Student member

Only Woman Undergraduate Engineering Students from 2nd Year onwards, who are SAEINDIA Student Members will be eligible for this award.

The award will be based on the following performance criteria of the student.

  • Academic performance

  • Participation in SAE Activities.

  • Special achievements / awards / recognitions.

Procedure for Applications for Kalpana Chawla Scholarships

Applications for Kalpana Chawla scholarships should be sent to respective section with full details and testimonials for three award criteria listed above . Each section shall scrutinize the applications received (from SAE student member women engineers) and shall forward the recommendations along with the detailed applications of three best candidates from the section to the Secretary SAE India Foundation at the address given below.

Schedule

  • Receipt of Applications by sections: End September 2011.

  • Scrutiny and short-listing of 3 best applications by the Sections: 15th October 2011.

  • last date of receipt of Short-listed applications by Secretary SAEINDIA Foundation: 31st October 2011.

Section Scholarships

The Section Scholarships allocated for the 5 sections for the year 2011 are as under.

Section Amount Total

  • Southern India section 6 scholarships Rs. 4000/- each = Total Rs. 20000/-

  • Northern India section 5 scholarships Rs. 4000/- each = Total Rs. 20000/-

  • Western India section 4 scholarships Rs. 4000/- each = Total Rs. 16000/-

  • Eastern India section 1 Scholarship Rs. 4000/- each = Total Rs. 4000/-

  • Bangalore Section 2 Scholarships Rs. 4000/- each = Total Rs. 8000/-

  • Total Scholarship amount allocated = Rs 72000/-

a. Eligibility

  • Should have two years of continuous SAEINDIA Student membership.

  • SAE Student Membership should be valid at the time of application

b. Criteria for Awards

The Section committee shall decide the awards based on the following criteria.

  • Promoting membership in the club.

  • SAE activities

  • Academic performance

  • Awards/prizes

a. Procedure for Applications :

Respective sections as above shall invite applications for the section scholarships. The Section committee shall decide the awards and forward the names of awardees to Secretary, SAE India Foundation.

The list of awardees should reach Secretary SAE India Foundation by 15th Nov. 2011.

The secretary shall send the cheques and certificates to the respective sections.

Student Paper Awards

  • The eligibility criteria and award details are listed under the respective awards below.

  • All student paper to be clearly marked with the name of the awards e.g. “student paper for Prof. B.S. Murthy Award”.

  • The papers should be submitted at our website: www.siimc2012.org click submission icon & submit the paper. The papers should be submitted latest by 30th September 2011.

  • The short listed papers will be required to be presented by the authors at the SAE India Mobility Conference 2012 to be held at India Habitat Centre Delhi from 9th to 11th January,2012. The award shall be decided by a committee added by Dr. K.Kumar, President SAE India Foundation and shall be presented at the conference.

  • SAE India Foundation will reimburse 2nd class sleeper return fair for one author for presenting the paper.

Awards for best collegiate club presentation at Delhi. (Northern Section Only)

[M/s TRIM India agreed to contribute Rs. 5000/- for Northern Section collegiate clubs for the two best collegiate club presentations.]

  • First prize: Rs. 3000/

  • Second Prize: Rs. 2000/

Kalpana Chawla Awards

The applications for Kalpana Chawla Awards for the year 2009 were considered by the committee in the meeting held on 17th November,09.

The following candidates have been declared successful.

  •  Ms. S Sindhuja First Prize (Rs.15, 000 + Memento + Certificate) (P.S.G.College of Technology, Coimbatore)

  •  Ms. Ishneet Kaur Second Prize (Rs.5000 + Memento + Certificate) (IGIT, Delhi)

  • Ms. Deepshikha Agarwal Third Prize (Rs.2000 + Memento + Certificate) (DCE,DELHI)

The awards Will be presented by the President SAE International at the collegiate club function to be held at 5 PM on 7th December,09 at IIT Delhi.

Award winners coming from stations out side Delhi will be paid to and fro Second class sleeper fare. Pl. acknowledge this message and confirm your presence for receiving the awards.

Myers-Uyehara Outstanding Student Paper Award(s)

Area: All areas of Automotive engineering except Engine Fuel Efficiency and Emissions

i. Purpose of the award: To honor the memory of Professors Phil Myers and Otto Uyehara for their contribution to the growth of education, mobility technology, and the development of future technologists, as well as the establishment and growth of SAE in India

ii. Eligibility: All undergraduate and post graduate students who are in their final year working in an automotive engineering related area and can write a paper based on their project/ thesis and present it personally at the SAE India Mobility Conference 2012 Conference. Two forwarding letters one from the thesis supervisor and the other from the Faculty advisor shall accompany it certifying that the paper has been prepared from the student’s own project/thesis work. Endorsement from the concerned section is mandatory. This competition shall be on an All India Basis.

iii. Award consists of three prizes

  • First prize: Rs. 15000/-, memento and certificate

  • Second Prize: Rs. 10000/-, memento and certificate

  • Third Prize: Rs. 5000/-, memento and certificate

Prof. B.S Murthy Award – Rs. 6000/-

Area: Engine Fuel Efficiency

i. Eligibility: Students who are in third or fourth year of the undergraduate engineering program in India who can present a paper in the area of Engine Fuel Efficiency and Emission Control ( Prof.B.S.Murthy was more interested in this area) in one of the SAE India/SIAT Conferences. Faculty advisor and Head of the Department of the institution has to forward the papers.

Awards:

  • First prize: Rs. 4000 (with a plaque)
  • Second prize: Rs.2000 (with a plaque)
  • The awards will be presented at the SIAT conference (Jan.2011)

Revathi Iyer Memorial Award for Excellence in Technical Writing

Good Technical Paper writing

i. Purpose: To honor the memory of Ms. Revathi Iyer who was an excellent writer.

ii. Eligibility: SAEINDIA Student member who is in the THIRD YEAR of his Engineering Study and coming under the plus1 scheme and who writes the best technical paper on a topic of current interest chosen by the Engineering Education Board in line with the theme of the Conference or Congress.

iii Awards for the Excellence in Technical Writing

  • First Prize Rs. 3000/-
  • Second Prize Rs. 2000/-
